After I visited family in Germany, I continued my May 2026 euro trip. I visited one of the most stunning mountainous regions of the world: Interlaken, Switzerland. Snowy, craggy Alps surround this tourist town. Sitting between two lakes, Interlaken serves as a central railway link to many smaller alpine villages in the region.

Traveling there during shoulder season meant less crowds. I also imagine the costs of things overall were lower even though everything in Switzerland is expensive no matter what way you slice it!

The time of year that I went limited the options I had for hiking. I wasn’t able to hike most upper altitude areas. Alas, I still managed to access four epic viewpoints via hiking and cable cars. This post highlights how I accessed each, what they offered, and why Spring is a wonderful season to visit Interlaken.

I’m baaack! Well, for now. I’m here to brag a little about how well I planned my most recent trip to Europe. Specifically, I went to Germany, Switzerland, and France. I planned my ground travel so well that I wanted to make a standalone post about it.

In this post, you will learn when and how I went about scheduling all of the train and bus travel that took me across three European countries. I went from Munich, Germany to Interlaken, Switzerland and then from Swizterland to 3 different locations in France.

The key was scheduling ahead and downloading all the relevant train apps. This saved me money and plenty of hassle. There were only a few hiccups along the way, but I’ll also share how those were smoothed over with help from technology, friendly locals, and some luck!
